The Hong Kong Mediation Council (HKMC), a division of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), is offering a mediation training course designed for individuals who are interested to become accredited mediators. The course will cover the following topics:


  • The key principles of mediation as a means of dispute resolution;
  • Principles of interest-based negotiation;
  • The process of facilitative mediation model;
  • The role of a mediator
  • Mediator's skills and techniques
  • Ethical code of mediators
  • Drafting settlement agreement; and
  • Role of lawyers and advisors in mediation


WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

  • Legal practitioners, service professionals, government officers, corporate executives, senior management, corporate communications managers and dispute resolution practitioners.

SCHEDULE:

  • Day 1: Sunday 31st March 2019, 09:30am to 06:30pm;
  • Day 2: Tuesday 2nd April 2019, 06:30pm to 10:30pm;
  • Day 3: Thursday 4th April 2019, 06:30pm to 10:30pm;
  • Day 4: Friday 5th April 2019, 09:30am to 06:30pm
  • Day 5: Saturday 6th April 2019, 09:30am to 06:30pm; and

    Lead Trainer

    Christopher is an independent mediator, adjudicator and arbitrator who is on the panels of various leading global alternative dispute resolution bodies. He has arbitrated and adjudicated a variety of international cases involving both ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations and adjudications, and has mediated many international and domestic cases to date. After joining the Bar, he has represented clients in a variety of arbitrations as counsel.

    Christopher has written a variety of articles and publications in the areas of arbitration, adjudication, mediation, corporate governance and internet domain names and continues to write in these areas.

    As former Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, he managed to elevate Hong Kong’s status as the regional dispute resolution hub of Asia by increasing the number of international dispute cases being referred to Hong Kong for amiable resolution as well as creating the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre, a body that has gain international prominence within the dot.com community as a reliable, trustworthy, independent and reputable entity that manages domain name disputes. Prior to joining the Bar, he was the inaugural Executive Director of the Construction Industry Council, a position he held for 8 years, to which a variety of prominent achievements were made, including the renowned “Zero Carbon Building” an icon of the Build Environment that has been recognized globally.

    Jody SIN

    Lead Trainer

    Jody is currently the Vice-Chairperson of Hong Kong Mediation Council (HKMC). She is an accredited mediator of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and Hong Kong Law Society, an IMI Certified Mediator and a Distinguished Fellow of International Academy of Mediators. She has substantial experience in mediating disputes of different nature, from commercial, employment, shareholder to insurance disputes.


    As a matter of background, she was a Senior Lawyer in DLA Piper Hong Kong, and though she has been specializing in civil litigation, she finds mediation practice far more challenging and in terms of job satisfaction, more rewarding than litigation.

    Jody is also a trainer of accredited mediator course with the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education and delivers numerous mediation and negotiation training programmes for government departments and numerous corporate and non-corporate organizations in Hong Kong.
